ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Osmoregulation

Osmoregulation is how living things keep their bodies stable and healthy, so they can stay alive. It's like a balancing act- cells need to have the right amount of salt and water in them at all times. Too much or too little of either can make them sick. That's where osmoregulation comes in. Osmoregulation means that cells use special molecules to help them move water and salt in and out of their bodies, to keep things in balance. They work like little pumps, pushing water and salt when there's too much of it, and drawing it back in when there's not enough of it. That way, cells can stay healthy and alive.
