ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ottomanism

Ottomanism is like being part of a really cool club called the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire was a group of countries that were ruled by the same cool people in charge. They were like kings and queens but they called themselves sultans.

Ottomanism is about all the different people in the Ottoman Empire feeling like they were part of a family. Even though they might come from different places or believe in different things like religions, they all wanted to be part of this big family called the Ottoman Empire.

The cool sultans who were in charge wanted everyone to feel like they were important and part of the family. They would try to help out the people who were having trouble and make rules that would make everyone happy.

Sometimes though, people didn't always feel like they were part of the family. They might feel like their language or religion wasn't being respected as much as other people's. So, some people started to think that they should be more like their own country instead of being part of the Ottoman Empire family.

Eventually, the Ottoman Empire started to have some problems and it wasn't as strong as it used to be. But, Ottomanism still reminds us that we should always try to be kind to everyone and make them feel like they are part of the family.
