ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Overcategorization

Okay kiddo, so do you know what categories mean? They are like groups of things that share something in common. For example, apples, bananas, and oranges are all in the fruit category because they are all types of fruit.

Sometimes though, people can get a little too excited about categories and make too many, that's called overcategorization. It's like having so many toy boxes that you don't even remember which toys go where!

So when we have too many categories, it can be hard to remember where things belong and it can make it difficult to understand how things are related to each other. It's important to have categories, but not too many, just enough to make things organized and easy to understand.
