ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pagan

Pagan is a word that people use to describe a bunch of different religions that don't worship the same god(s) as most people do. Some people who believe in pagan religions might worship nature or the sun or the moon or different gods and goddesses. Sometimes people even worship animals or plants!

These religions were very popular a long, long time ago, but nowadays not as many people practice them. Some people still do, though, and they celebrate things like the changing of the seasons or the waxing and waning of the moon. They might also use herbs or crystals or other special things in their practices.

The word "pagan" comes from a Latin word that means "country dweller," because a lot of people who lived in the country a long time ago still believed in these religions even after other people started worshiping different gods. It's kind of like how different people believe in different things all over the world!
