Parliamentary republic

Okay, so you know how sometimes grown-ups have meetings to make important decisions about things that affect a lot of people? Countries have meetings like that too!

A parliamentary republic is one kind of country where people vote for representatives to go to meetings (called a parliament) and make decisions about how the country should be run.

The parliament makes decisions by choosing a leader (the prime minister) who will decide what the government will do. The prime minister is picked by the members of the parliament who think they will do a good job. They usually pick someone from the political party that won the most votes in the election.

The president of the country is also chosen by the parliament, but they mostly do things like shaking hands with important visitors and representing the country at ceremonies.

The people who are chosen to represent their area (called constituencies) in the parliament are called Members of Parliament (MPs). They are the ones who talk about the problems the country has and work together to find ways to fix them.

So, in a way, a parliamentary republic is like a big group project where everyone has to work together to get things done for the whole country.
