Okay kiddo, have you ever locked a secret diary or a treasure chest with a password that only you or someone you've chosen can open, right? Similarly, when we create a password online, it helps protect our personal information, like our bank account, social media or email from bad people who might want to steal them.
But sometimes, people forget their passwords, or bad guys can guess them or use some tricky methods to figure out what they are! This is called Password Cracking.
Password cracking is like playing a guessing game to open someone's diary or treasure chest. Bad people, called hackers use special software or tools to try and guess or break the password. They can use different methods, like guessing common passwords, using the same password from different online accounts, or even finding out personal information about the person, such as their pet's name, birth date or phone number.
Hackers can also use something called "brute-force," where they try to guess all possible combinations of letters, numbers, and symbols until they find the correct one. Imagine if you had to guess a number between 1 to 100 by trying every single number, such as 1,2,3,4....,100! It takes a lot of time and patience!
Password cracking is bad because it can give bad people access to our personal information, which they can use to steal money or hurt us. That's why it's important to create strong passwords by using a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols, and not sharing them with anyone, even our closest friends or family.
Remember, passwords are like a secret key that protect our digital stuff. So, be smart and stay safe!
