ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Paternalistic deception

Paternalistic Deception is when a person deceives someone else because they think it is good for them. It could be something as simple as pretending you're really tired so your friend doesn't feel bad about wanting to leave an outing early, or it could be something more serious like lying about how much money you make so your friend doesn't feel bad about not being as successful. Paternalistic Deception is usually done out of kindness, but it is still considered to be wrong because it means that someone is not telling the truth.
