ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Peace bond

Okay kiddo, imagine two people who don't get along very well, they argue and maybe even fight sometimes. But instead of going to court and getting in trouble with the law, they decide to make an agreement called a peace bond.

A peace bond is like a promise that they won't hurt each other or cause any trouble for a certain period of time, usually a year. In order to make this promise, they have to go to a court or police station and ask for a peace bond.

The court or police will listen to their story and then decide if a peace bond is a good idea. If they agree, the two people will have to sign the peace bond and promise to behave nicely towards each other. This means they can't threaten each other or do anything that could make the other person feel scared or uncomfortable.

If they do break the peace bond, they could get in trouble with the law and even go to jail. But hopefully, with the peace bond in place, they will be able to get along better and avoid any more troubles.
