Penny Scots

Well kiddo, have you ever heard of a penny before? It's a coin that's worth one cent. In Scotland, they have their own version of a penny, called a penny scot.

Now, a penny scot looks similar to a regular penny, but it's a bit different. Instead of having a picture of the Queen on it, it has a picture of a thistle, which is a flower that's really important to Scotland.

People used to use penny scots a lot more than they do now. They were used to buy things like candies or small toys, and sometimes even to pay for a bus or a train ride.

But as time has gone on, people have started using other types of coins more often, like the pound coin, which is worth a lot more than a penny scot. So you probably wouldn't see a lot of penny scots in use anymore, but they're still an important part of Scotland's history and culture.
