ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pentadin

Pentadin is a type of molecule made up of five smaller parts called amino acids. Amino acids are kind of like building blocks that make up proteins in our bodies. Just like how we can build different things with different Lego blocks, our bodies can make different proteins by putting different amino acids together in different ways.

Pentadin is found in certain types of mushrooms and can help our bodies fight against harmful bacteria and viruses. It works by binding to the surface of these bad germs and stopping them from making more of themselves or spreading throughout the body.

Scientists are really interested in pentadin because it could potentially be used as a new medicine or treatment for infections. They are studying it to see how it works and how it can be used to help people who get sick from these types of germs.
