ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Personally identifying information

Personally identifying information (PII) is like your secret code that tells people who you are. It's information about you that can be used to find out things like your name, where you live, your phone numbers, your email address, your date of birth, your social security number, and even your credit card numbers.

PII is important to keep safe because bad people might try to use it to do bad things. Like if someone has your credit card number, they could use it to buy things without your permission! It's like sharing your secret code with strangers, which is not safe.

So, you should always be very careful about sharing your PII. Only share it with people you trust, like your parents or teachers, and be sure to keep it safe by not telling anyone else.
