ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Photo-Dember

Photo-dember happens when light is shone onto a material and it kicks out electrons from that material. Think of it like shining a flashlight on a toy and the light makes the toy move. In this case, the light is making the electrons move out of the material.

When these electrons are kicked out, they can create new electrical charges in the material which can be useful for things like making solar cells or studying materials. But we have to be careful, too much light can be harmful and cause damage to the material.
