ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Piezometer

A piezometer is like a straw that can tell us how much water is underground. You see, sometimes we need to know how much water is under the ground because it can help us make good choices about where to build houses, how to grow crops, and how to protect the environment.

So, the piezometer straw is put into the ground like a straw in a drink. When we put it in, it sucks up some of the water underground and it goes to the top of the straw. Then, we can measure how high up the water goes in the straw. The higher up it goes, the more water is underground.

This can help us understand things like how much water is available to plants, or how much water is being used up by people in a city. It's like a little helper that can tell us important information that we can use to make our world better.
