Pigs are cute little animals that we sometimes eat. When we want to eat them, we have to first kill them. This is called slaughter.
Now, slaughtering a pig is a very careful process to make sure the pig does not feel any pain. First, the pig is taken to a special area where it is given food and water to keep it calm.
Next, a trained person carefully uses a tool to make the pig go to sleep so that it does not feel any pain. This tool is kind of like a special shot that has medicine in it to make the pig very sleepy.
After the pig is asleep, its throat is cut quickly with a sharp knife. This is called bleeding. When a pig is bleeding, it can no longer send blood to its brain which makes it quick for the pig, so it does not feel any pain.
Then, the pig's body is cleaned and prepared to be made into food. The pig's head, feet, and other parts that we do not usually eat are taken off.
Finally, the rest of the pig's body is cut up into different pieces that we can buy at the store to cook and eat.
So, even though it seems a little bit scary to slaughter pigs, it is a very necessary and careful process to make sure the pigs do not feel any pain and that we can have tasty food to eat.
