Pillory

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen the stocks in those old-timey drawings or movies? The pillory is kind of like that, but instead of just your legs being locked in place, your whole body is locked in place.

In the olden days, if someone did something that was considered bad or against the law, they might get punished by being put in the pillory. This punishment was meant to embarrass and shame the person.

Basically, the person would stand in a wooden frame with their neck, hands, and sometimes their feet locked in. People walking by would throw things at them or laugh at them. It was like a way of putting them on display as a warning to others not to do bad things like stealing or lying.

It sounds really mean and not something we do anymore, but it was a form of punishment that people thought was necessary a long time ago. Nowadays, we have other ways to punish people that don't involve humiliating them in public.
