Pitfall trap

A pitfall trap is like a hole in the ground with some yummy treats inside. Bugs and other small creatures walk by and they smell the yummy treats. So, they crawl inside the trap to get the food, but then they fall into the pit and can't get out! The pit is usually deep enough that the bugs and creatures can't climb or fly out easily. Scientists use these pitfall traps to catch and study bugs and other small animals. Cool, right?
