Plain Folk of the Old South

Okay kiddo, do you remember the stories we read about cowboys and farmers in the Wild West? Well, in the same time period there were people living in the southern part of America who were known as the “plain folk of the old south”.

These were regular people who lived in rural areas like farms and small towns. They weren't rich, like the big plantation owners, but they weren't poor either. They were somewhere in the middle. These people were really proud of their southern culture and heritage.

They usually worked with their hands, doing things like farming, raising animals, and making clothes. They didn’t have a lot of money, but they were self-sufficient and didn’t rely on others for their needs.

Their houses were often simple and made of wood, but they were cozy and well-loved. Plain folk of the old south were known for their hospitality and friendliness. They loved sharing their food, music, and stories with others.

One important thing to remember is that during this time, there were different laws and social norms that applied to people based on the color of their skin. This means that many of the plain folk of the old south were white, and they might have had different experiences than Black people living in the same area.

Overall, the plain folk of the old south were just regular people who lived simple, happy lives in the southern part of America.
