Plane partition

Okay kiddo, have you ever played with building blocks before? Imagine if we had a lot of blocks and we wanted to build a tower. We could make the tower as tall as we wanted, as long as we had enough blocks.

Now, instead of building a tower, let’s build a pyramid with these blocks. We can put the blocks on top of each other and make each layer one block smaller. So the bottom layer would have the most blocks, and the top layer would only have one block.

But what if we didn’t want to build a pyramid? What if we wanted to build a cube or a rectangle? That’s where plane partitions come in.

A plane partition is like building a stack of blocks, but instead of putting them on top of each other in a pyramid shape, we put them on a flat surface, like a table or the floor.

We can use different colors of blocks to make it more interesting, and arrange them in different ways. The important thing is that each block has to touch at least one other block, but it can’t overlap any other block.

If we keep adding blocks to our plane partition, we can make it bigger and bigger. We can even make it as big as we want, depending on how many blocks we have.

So, a plane partition is a way of stacking blocks on a flat surface, without overlapping them. We can use as many blocks as we want, and arrange them in different ways to make different shapes. It’s like building a tower or a pyramid, but on a table instead of in the air!
