ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Plant cognition

Plant cognition is the idea that plants can think and make decisions. It's kind of like animals thinking and deciding things, but for plants. Some people think plants can look around, learn, remember and even communicate with each other. Scientists are studying how plants can sense their environment and if they can think, and so far they've found out that plants can change their behavior in response to signals from other plants and even other species. For example, when a caterpillar eats a leaf, the plant can sense this and grow thicker leaves to try to protect itself. This is plant cognition.
