ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Plautus

Plautus was a really old guy who lived a really long time ago in ancient Rome. He wasn't a king or anything like that, but he was really famous for being a funny writer. He wrote plays, kind of like big stories that people would act out on stage, and everyone loved them because they were so silly.

Plautus was a bit like a magician because he could take everyday things, like a boy who wants to impress a girl or some greedy old man, and turn them into really funny stories. He could make people laugh by using lots of clever words and jokes, and making the characters do really silly things.

Plautus wrote more than 20 plays, and they were all really popular. People would come from all over Rome to watch them, like we might go to the movies today. Some of his most famous plays were about people falling in love, getting into trouble, or just being really silly.

Even though Plautus lived a really long time ago, people still like his plays today. They show us what life was like in ancient Rome, and how people liked to have fun and laugh, just like we do today.
