ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Poet laureate

A poet laureate is someone who is picked by the government to be really special and write poems for important events.

It's kind of like when your teacher asks someone in your class to lead the group project because they're really good at it. The government asks a poet laureate to write poems because they're really good at it too!

Poet laureates usually serve for a certain amount of time, like one or two years, and during that time they might write poems about things like big celebrations or sad times.

Think of it like a superhero who has a special power for making words sound really beautiful and meaningful!
