Poisson's ratio

Poisson's ratio is the measure of the amount something will get narrower when it gets longer. Think of a rubber band. If you stretch the rubber band, it will get longer, but it will also get skinnier. That's because of Poisson's ratio. Poisson's ratio is like a measure of how much something squishes when it is stretched.
