Population genomics

Population genomics is the study of how the genetic material of different populations has evolved over generations. It looks at how certain species either stay the same or change, why they do so and how we can use this knowledge in the future. We study the genes of different populations and analyze how they have changed over time, such as in size, diversity and how they are affected by certain events. This information can tell us a lot about how species evolve and why certain populations have survived and others have not. For example, if a drought affects a population and it is unable to survive, we can look at the genetic material to see what special abilities that population may have had, or perhaps why it was not able to survive compared to other populations. Population genomics is an important field that helps us better understand how species change over time and how to better conserve them in the future.
