Pork barrel politics

Pork barrel politics is when a politician gives money or other kinds of help to their own district, state, or group of people, to get support from those people. This can mean making sure the district or state gets more money than other places or that the people in the district get special benefits. The politician often gets support from the people in their district in return, like votes.
