Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome is an idea that today's African American community still suffers from the effects of what happened to their ancestors, who were slaves in the U.S. hundreds of years ago. Slavery hurt African Americans in many ways, physically, emotionally, and mentally. After slavery ended, many African Americans were left with pain and trauma from their experiences. Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome is the idea that these painful experiences were passed down through generations, and continue to negatively affect African Americans today, even though slavery has been over for a long time. So even though today's African Americans never experienced slavery, they can still suffer from some of the pain and trauma from it.
