Value is something that we use to describe how much we think something is worth. For example, a toy might be valuable to you because it's fun and you like playing with it. But something else, like a pencil, might not be as valuable because it's not as fun or useful to you.

Now, the power theory of value says that the value of something is actually determined by the people who have power in a society. Power means having the ability to control things or influence other people.

So, let's say that some people in a society have a lot of power. Maybe they're the rulers or the wealthy people. They might be able to decide what things are considered valuable in that society. They might decide that things like diamonds, fancy clothes, or expensive cars are very valuable.

But other people, who don't have as much power or influence, might have different ideas about what is valuable. They might think that things like clean water, food, or a safe place to live are more important.

So, the power theory of value says that the value of something is not just based on how much we like it or need it, but also on who has the power to decide what is valuable. Does that make sense?
