ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Primitive spectrum

So imagine you have a bunch of different colored blocks. There are red blocks, blue blocks, green blocks, and so on. These different colors represent different types of sounds in music.

When you put all the blocks together, they make a big tower of colors. This tower is called a spectrum, which means all the different colors are mixed together.

But sometimes, if you look closely at the tower, you notice that there are some blocks that are just one color and not mixed with the others. These blocks are called primitive blocks.

So in music, sometimes there are certain sounds that are just one type of sound and not mixed with any other sounds. These sounds are called primitive sounds.

The collection of all the primitive sounds in music is called the primitive spectrum. It’s like taking out all the single colored blocks from the tower and looking at them together.

And just like how different colors make different towers, the different types of primitive sounds can make different types of music sounds too!
