ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Principles of grouping

Grouping is when you put things together that are the same or similar. This makes it easier to find and remember things. For example, if you have a bunch of toys in your room, you can group them together by type. You can put all the stuffed animals in one pile, all the dolls in another, and all the books in another. That way, when you are looking for a toy, like a stuffed animal, you know right away where to find it. Grouping is usually based on similarities, like type, color, shape, or size.
