ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Proa

A proa is like a boat that has a cool and special design! Instead of having a regular boat shape, the proa has a long and narrow hull that looks like a canoe. It also has an outrigger, which is a smaller floating arm that sticks out to the side to help balance the boat in the water.

People have been using proas for thousands of years in places like the Philippines and Polynesia. They are especially good for sailing on the ocean because they are fast and can ride the waves really well. Plus, the outrigger helps keep the boat stable even in rough waters.

If you were to look closely at a proa, you would notice that the sail is mounted sideways instead of up and down like most boats. This is because the wind usually comes from the side when you're sailing on the ocean. The boat is designed to catch the wind and move quickly through the water, almost like a bird flying through the air.

So, a proa is a kind of boat that is shaped like a canoe, has an outrigger, and a sideways sail. It's really fast and great for sailing on the ocean!
