Probability distribution fitting

Probability distribution fitting is when we use math to try to figure out the shape of a set of numbers. For example, if you had a list of day temperatures from last summer, you could use probability distribution fitting to try to figure out what type of shape that data looks like. Does it look like a bell (bell curve), or does it look more like a straight line? The shape of the data can tell us a lot about what it might look like in the future.
