ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Program derivation

Program derivation is like creating a recipe to make something yummy like cookies.

Imagine you want to make cookies, but you don't know how. You ask your mommy how to make cookies and she gives you the recipe. The recipe tells you what ingredients you need and what steps to follow to make cookies.

That's what program derivation is. It's like creating a recipe for a computer program. You tell the computer what you want it to do, and it figures out how to do it.

Just like a recipe, a computer program needs to have all the right ingredients (or code) and follow the right steps in order to work properly.

So, when you do program derivation, you are figuring out what the ingredients (code) and steps are needed to create a computer program that does what you want it to do.
