ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Proportional navigation

Proportional navigation is a way for things like planes, missiles, and boats to hit a moving target.
Imagine playing catch with a friend who is constantly moving around. If you want to catch the ball, you need to run towards where the ball is going, not where it currently is. Proportional navigation works the same way.
It uses information about how fast the target is moving and its direction to calculate where it will be in the future. Then, the plane or missile moves towards that future position to intercept the target.
It’s like anticipating where your friend is going to throw the ball and moving your body to the right spot. With proportional navigation, planes and missiles can hit moving targets with accuracy.
