ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Proportionalism

Proportionalism is a way of thinking about moral decisions. It means that if something bad is going to happen, we should think about how large the bad thing is, and how much good would come from it. The larger the bad thing is, the more good must come from it to make it worth it. For example, if we have to go to war, it means that people might get hurt or even killed. That's the bad thing. But if going to war will save the lives of even more people, then it might be worth it. So, with proportionalism, we think about how much bad and how much good will come from our decisions, and if the good outweighs the bad, it might be the right thing to do.
