ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Proprioception

Proprioception is like a special kind of sensory system that helps us know how our bodies are positioned and moving without having to look at them. It's like a sixth sense that's always working without us even realizing it. For example, if you raise your hands above your head, you might not be able to see them, but because of proprioception you can still tell that they are up there. You don't have to look at your hands to know that they are in the air. Proprioception can also help you balance, because it can tell your brain whether you are standing up straight or leaning to one side.
