Proskynesis

Proskynesis is a word that was used a long time ago in ancient Greece to describe a way of showing respect or worship to a person who was considered important, like a king or queen.

Imagine you're at a big party with lots of people. Suddenly, a very important person arrives - like a super hero, for example. Everyone knows this person is very special, and they want to show their respect and admiration. If you wanted to show this person how much you care, you might bow down or kneel in front of them, putting your forehead on the ground - this is called proskynesis!

Back in ancient Greece, proskynesis was a way for people to show how much they respected their kings or queens. They would bow down and maybe even touch their foreheads to the ground in front of them. This showed that the king or queen was very powerful and important to them.

However, proskynesis is not really used in modern times because it can be seen as a bit extreme or excessive. Nowadays, we show respect and admiration for people in other ways, like clapping, giving a friendly wave, or just telling them that we think they're great!
