Protoscience is a kind of research or knowledge that is trying to become a science. It can look like a science in some ways, but it doesn't have enough evidence to be considered a real science yet. It usually involves lots of research, experiments, and careful thinking to try and prove that something is true. For example, when people first started to think about the idea of flying, that was protoscience. People had ideas and theories, but no one had really managed to fly yet, and so it wasn't really a science yet. Now that lots of people have proved that flying is possible, it has become a real science.
