ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pseudo-polyomino

Okay, kiddo, imagine we have some shapes that look like puzzle pieces, but they're not exactly like the ones you use to make a jigsaw puzzle. These other shapes are called polyominoes.

Now, a pseudo-polyomino is a shape that looks like a polyomino, but it doesn't follow all the rules. Specifically, a polyomino has to be made up of squares that are all connected to each other side-by-side. No gaps allowed! But a pseudo-polyomino might have a gap or two in it that makes it not exactly a polyomino.

Think of it like if you were making a sandwich with pieces of bread. If you put all the bread slices together without any gaps, that's like a polyomino. But if you accidentally left a little space between two of the bread slices, that's sort of like a pseudo-polyomino. It's still kind of like a sandwich, but not quite.

Does that make sense, kiddo?
