Pseudolite

Pseudolites are special beacons that help guide airplanes and ships when other types of positioning systems are not available. The beacons send out signals that contain location information, and the plane or ship can use this information to stay on course. They are especially helpful when GPS-based navigation is not available, which can happen in different areas of the world or during rare events such as solar storms.
