ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Psophometric voltage

Psophometric voltage is a fancy way of talking about noise that comes through a telephone line. When you talk to someone on the phone, there might be some extra sounds or buzzing that you hear in the background. This is called noise, and it can make it hard to hear what the other person is saying.

Psophometric voltage is a way for engineers to measure how much of this noise is happening on a phone line. They use special equipment to measure the electrical signals that are going through the line, and then they can figure out how much of that signal is noise.

When they measure the psophometric voltage, they look at the specific frequencies of the noise that are most likely to cause problems for people talking on the phone. They want to make sure that the noise levels are low enough that people can still hear each other clearly.

So, in short, psophometric voltage is just a way for engineers to measure and control the amount of background noise that people hear when they talk on the phone.
