ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Punjabi Braille

Oh hello there! Today we are going to learn about something called Punjabi braille. Do you know what braille is? It's a special system of raised dots that blind people can read with their fingers like reading with their eyes for us who can see.

Now, Punjabi braille is like regular braille, but it's used specifically for the Punjabi language. In Punjabi language, you write words with different symbols than you do in English. So, Punjabi braille uses different symbols than English braille to help blind Punjabi speakers read.

Punjabi braille has 63 different characters or symbols. These symbols include letters, numbers, and punctuation marks. Each symbol is made up of different combinations of six dots that are raised, like dots on a dice. The six dots are arranged in two columns of three dots each, and each symbol is formed by different configurations of these six dots.

So, Punjabi speaking people who are blind can read books, newspapers, and other written materials in Punjabi language using Punjabi braille. Isn't that amazing? It helps those who are blind still have access to read and learn in their own language.

I hope you enjoyed learning about Punjabi braille today!
