Quantitative revolution

Okay kiddo, so have you ever seen a map? Maps are really cool because they show you what the world looks like from above. People have been making maps for thousands of years, but they used to do it by hand. That means they had to draw every little line and color in every little area. It was pretty hard work!

But then, about 60 years ago, some really smart people came up with a way to use computers to help them make maps. They called this the "quantitative revolution". "Quantitative" means using numbers, and that's what they did. They made maps with lots of numbers on them, like how many people lived in each city, or how much rainfall there was in each state.

This was really helpful because it made the maps more accurate. When people make maps by hand, they can make mistakes. But computers are really good at adding up numbers and figuring out averages. So the maps made in the quantitative revolution were more reliable.

But it wasn't just about making maps. People started using numbers to study all kinds of things, like how the economy works, or how people move around cities. They called this "quantitative analysis". It's like using a magnifying glass to study something really closely.

The quantitative revolution changed the way we study lots of different things. We still use it today to learn new things about the world around us!
