Quebec (AG) v Blaikie (No 1)

Okay kiddo, let me explain the case of Quebec (AG) v Blaikie (No 1) to you!

So you know how sometimes people or companies get in trouble with the law and have to go to court to sort things out? Well, this case is about that.

A man named Mr. Blaikie was an accountant and he worked for a company that was doing some work for the government of Quebec. But the government felt like Mr. Blaikie wasn't following the rules and was possibly doing something wrong.

So they decided to go to court and ask a judge to look at the situation and decide if Mr. Blaikie had done anything bad.

Now, when you go to court, you need to have a lawyer who can argue your side of things. But in this case, Mr. Blaikie and the government of Quebec disagreed on who should pay for the lawyer.

The government said that Mr. Blaikie's company should have to pay for the lawyer, since they were the ones doing the work for the government. But Mr. Blaikie's company said that the government should have to pay for it, since they were the ones bringing the case against Mr. Blaikie.

So the judge had to decide who was right. And they ended up saying that the government should pay for the lawyer for Mr. Blaikie's company.

Basically, the case was about who should pay for a lawyer in a court case between the government and someone who was working for them. And the judge said that the government had to pay.
