ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Quran translations

Quran is like a special book that is very important to many people around the world. It tells stories and teaches people about God and how to be a good person. But not everyone speaks the same language as the Quran was originally written in, which is called Arabic.

So what some smart people did was they translated the Quran into different languages so everyone could read it and understand what it’s saying. Kind of like when you learn a new word in class and the teacher explains what it means in a way that you understand.

But translating the Quran can be pretty difficult because not every word or phrase can be literally translated into another language. That’s why different people might translate the Quran slightly differently because they might have different understandings or ways of explaining what it means.

It’s like when you and your friend are trying to describe your favorite movie to someone else. Even though you both like the same movie, you might explain it in different ways because you focus on different things.

So when you read a Quran translation, you should remember that it might not be exactly the same as if you were reading it in the original Arabic language. It’s kind of like a friend’s explanation of a movie compared to watching the movie yourself. But it’s still important and helpful for many people who want to learn more about God and how to be a good person.
