ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Race in horror films

Okay, so have you ever watched a scary movie where there are some people with a different color of skin or cultural background than you, and they are treated badly or made to look like monsters or villains? That's what we call "race in horror films".

Now, you know how when we go to school, we see kids with different skin colors and backgrounds, right? Well, in movies, sometimes people with different skin colors or backgrounds are not shown in a very nice way. This can make these people feel bad, and it can also make other people think that people like them are scary or bad all the time, even if that's not true.

Some movies also make it seem like only certain people are able to be brave or survive scary situations, and this can make other people feel like they are not important or strong.

So, it's important to remember that everyone, no matter what they look like or where they come from, can be brave and strong. And it's not okay to treat people badly just because of how they look or where they come from. Scary movies can be fun, but we should always try to be respectful and kind to everyone, no matter what.
