ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Radio access network

Radio Access Network, or RAN for short, is like a magical ladder that connects our phones and other devices to the internet and other communication networks.

Think of it like a treehouse you and your friends built in your backyard. You use a ladder to climb up to the treehouse and play games, read books, or talk to your friends. The ladder is the only way to get up there, just like RAN is the only way to connect to the internet and communicate with other devices.

Now imagine that your backyard is really big, and your friends' treehouses are spread out all over the place. You need a lot of ladders to reach all of them, and it would be really hard to climb up and down all day. That's where RAN comes in.

It's like a big network of ladders that are all connected to each other. Each one goes to a different treehouse, but you don't have to climb up and down all day. You just walk around with your phone or other device, and it automatically switches from one ladder (or tower) to another as you move around.

This happens really quickly and seamlessly, so you don't even notice it. It's all invisible magic that helps you stay connected to the internet and talk to your friends, whether they're across the street or across the world.

So, in short, RAN is like a magical ladder network that helps our devices connect to the internet and talk to each other.
