ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rancherie

Okay kiddo, a rancherie is a special place where Native American people used to live together in California. These people belong to different tribes, and they started living together because they didn't have a lot of land left to live on.

The rancherie is like a small village, where people lived in little houses made from materials like adobe, wood, and thatch. They also had a special place where they would meet and have ceremonies or celebrations called a "roundhouse". They would hunt, fish, and farm to get food.

Nowadays, very few rancheries still exist, and they are usually run by the Native American people who own the land. People can go and visit them to learn about the rich history and culture of the Native American people of California.
