Rapakivi granite

Rapakivi granite is a type of rock that comes from the ground, kind of like how sand comes from the beach. It's a really special type of rock because it has some really cool features.

The main part of rapakivi granite is made up of tiny crystals called minerals. These minerals are stuck together really tightly, and they give the rock its strength. But there's something else in rapakivi granite that's really unique: big, round shapes called "rapakivi." These shapes are made of different minerals than the rest of the rock, and they're big enough to see with your eyes!

The rapakivi shapes formed a long time ago when the rock was still underground. Hot liquid, called magma, was moving through the ground and getting closer to the surface. As it moved, minerals started to come out and stick together, forming the big, round shapes we see in rapakivi granite today.

When people find rapakivi granite, they often use it in building and decorating because it's really strong and looks really nice. It's like when you make a sandcastle at the beach - you use sand because it's easy to shape and really fun to play with. But when you want something that lasts a really long time, like a big building, you use something strong like rapakivi granite!
