Raree show

Hey there! Okay, so have you ever seen one of those little boxes with a picture inside, and when you turn a crank, the picture looks like it's moving? That's called a "motion picture" or a "flip book."

Well, a long time ago, before we had TVs or movies or anything like that, people used to have something called a "raree show." It was a box kind of like a motion picture box, but instead of a moving picture, there were little dolls or figures or scenes inside. People would pay money to look inside the box and see the little figures moving around, kind of like a tiny play or a moving picture show.

Sometimes, the raree show would have stories or fairy tales inside, so people could watch the little dolls act out the story. It was a form of entertainment that was very popular back in the old days, before we had all the cool gadgets and gizmos we have now.
