A rectangular function is like a rectangle. Imagine a graph with numbers running along the bottom, called the x-axis, and numbers going up and down, called the y-axis. A rectangular function is like drawing a rectangle on that graph. The left and right edges of the rectangle are horizontal lines, meaning that the y-axis numbers stay the same. The top and bottom edges of the rectangle are slanted lines, meaning that the x-axis numbers change. The x-axis numbers that make the rectangle look like a "flat top" are called the values of the rectangular function. The height of the rectangle is any number you decide, because you set that number on the y-axis.
