A recursive acronym is a word or phrase made up of initials from other words or phrases, but where one of the words or phrases whose initials are used is itself an acronym. So, for example, NASA is an acronym for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. If you make another acronym out of the initials from NASA, it becomes a recursive acronym. So an example of a recursive acronym is NERD - National Exploration and Research and Development.
